Welcome to Deadly Deception!

This is a project I've been working on for a while and I wanted to let other people try it out. I always thought that Deception: Murder in Hong Kong would work perfectly as a "Jackbox Game" and sure enough it does!

My family gets together every once in a while to play this and it's always great fun. The simplicity of it being on the TV with the cards automatically shuffled, and roles being automatically hidden from everyone else is so nice.

Right now, there is no mobile app for this game, just this page and a website. If you want to play it on your TV it requires a Firestick or a smart TV that has a web browser or you could stream the Board Screen on a Discord call. Any screen that has an internet browser can be the "board" or "game master". My family has used a Firestick in the past and it has worked great.

I'd love to hear people's critiques, thoughts, or questions on this. In the future, I'd love to make this into a full time project where I can add more social deduction games (as a pack of sorts with Secret Hitler, Diplomacy, Spyfall, etc.), and add more characters, expansions, roles, evidence tiles, etc.

How to Play

Starting a New Game

At the start of the game select your character, murder weapon, and evidence.

In a 4 player game, one player will be the murderer, one player will be a forensic scientist, and two players will be detectives.

If you are NOT selected as the murderer, the murder weapon and evidence you selected can be ignored.

If you are the murderer, try to prevent the other detectives from finding your murder weapon and evidence!

Roles

Forensic Scientist

You are shown the murderer's weapon and evidence.

You have to select clues to help the detectives find out who the murderer is with what weapon and evidence.

You are not allowed to directly communicate to any of the other players.

Detectives

You must look at everyone's list of possible murder weapons and evidence.

Using the information from the Forensic Scientist, try to solve who the murderer is, what weapon they used, and what evidence is left behind.

Murderer

Your goal is to not draw attention to the murder weapon and evidence you selected.

Try to cast suspicion on the other detectives and deceive the others when they point the finger at you!

Accomplice

(6 or more players)

Your goal is to prevent the murderer from getting caught.

You must do whatever you can to cast blame on the innocent detectives.

If the murderer is not caught, you both win!

Witness

(6 or more players)

You are shown the murderer and accomplice and have to convince the rest of the group that the murderer is guilty.

Do not reveal that you're the witness or the murderer will kill you too!

Gameplay

Investigation

During an investigation, all players (except Forensic Scientist) look at the other player's murder weapons and evidence.

Using the clues from the Forensic Scientist they must pinpoint the murderer, the weapon, and evidence.

Once all players had enough time to analyze the other players. they must present their idea for a possible murder weapon and evidence by selecting "Present".

Presentation

During the presentation phase, each player creates a story of how the murder was committed and how it relates to the clues from the Forensic Scientist.

If at any time, a player is compelled enough to make a formal accusation, they can select a player, murder weapon, evidence, and select "Accuse".

Accusation

Each player can make 1 accusation per game, so use it only when you are sure of the murderer!

During the accusation, you will learn if the accused player is guilty or not.

If the player is not guilty they might still be the murderer just with a different murder weapon or evidence!

If the murder weapon and evidence was correctly selected, the player is guilty and the detectives win.

Clue Replacement

After the end of each set of presentations, the Forensic Scientist replaces one clue with a new one.

The new clue may or may not be any more relevant than the previous clues but still gives the detectives some more information.

Running Out of Clues

After all the investigations are used up, if the murderer is not found, they win!

Killing The Witness

(6 or more players)

If the murderer is found guilty they get a chance to kill one of the other players. If they are able to kill the witness the murderer and accomplice win the game!
